Can You Really Trust The Water You Drink?

1/15/2018

Drinking enough water is an important part of any body-mind wellness program and, ideally, we want to drink half of our body weight in ounces of fresh, delicious water daily.

I talk about water with my students and clients a lot and what I hear repeatedly is that people don’t really trust their water! We live in a region of the world with very clean, plentiful water, and yet, many people have been lured toward drinking water from plastic bottles.
Continue reading to learn a bit about why this, and many types of water filters, are NOT such a great idea--and for my recommendations to ensure you and your family really can trust the water you drink.

What Do You Do When the Flu Shot Doesn't Work?

1/9/2018

We are all encouraged to get the flu shot annually, yet it's not very good at preventing us from actually getting sick with the flu.

The best it's done in the past 13 years is 60% effective, and one year it was only 10% effectively able to prevent flu.

The key to true success with preventing getting sick is to keep your immune system working optimally. Oftentimes, that's easier said than done.

There are many natural strategies you can practice to help ward off colds and the flu, this and every year into the future.

Here are 5 of my top favorites:

Organic Ginger for Optimal Digestion

Ginger, Zingiber Officinale, originally from Asia, is revered throughout the world. It has been consumed for thousands of years as a food, culinary spice and medicinal herb. The rhizome, or horizontal and branching root, is the part that is widely used for all three purposes. The pale brown skin should appear thin and smooth for maximum flavor and benefits. The flesh is best when it's juicy, and may be yellow, off-white or pale red. Please purchase organic ginger whenever possible, for improved flavor and greater medicinal properties.

Did you know?

Ginger is used in a variety of dishes and the flavor can vary with variety, size and whether it is cooked a long while, added toward the end of preparation, or used raw.
Ginger is one of the highest known sources of proteolytic (protein-digesting) enzymes, approximately 180 times higher than papaya.
Vegetable and meat marinades, prepared with fresh or dried ginger, help tenderize proteins and makes other nutrients more available, increasing their digestibility.

Introduction to Full Mind/Body Cleansing

A Brief History of Cleansing

Picture
For all of recorded history, humans all over the world have performed regular detoxification programs (body/mind cleansing practices), which have helped maximize their health. Now, in the past 160 years, since the Industrial Revolution began, more than 100,000 chemical compounds have been introduced into our bodies in more than a million combinations.
This has had a dramatic effect on our health, yet in Western cultures, people generally don’t cleanse, giving free reign for these toxins to wreak havoc on us, and the bodies and minds of our children and the elderly. Children and seniors are particularly vulnerable. Children because their small bodies are exposed to the same burden of potentially harmful chemicals as adults, and seniors because many of these toxins accumulate, and as seniors slow down, the effects on their bodies and minds increase.

Why should I detox?

Medicinal Herbal Teas, Made Properly, Provide Great Benefits

Herbal teas have provided immediate relief and long-term health benefits for thousands of years for people in every region of the world. To receive the full health-providing goodness from an herbal tea, first, the herbs need to have been grown in rich, clean soil with all the correct conditions. So buy organic whenever possible.

Next, they need to be harvested correctly; the right portion of the plant, the right stage of growth and time of season on a dry day. Then they need to be properly dried and stored. And lastly, they need to be fresh enough to still contain the delicate, aromatic oils that give most plants their potent healing powers.

This leaves out most of the brands on the store shelves. Too many are simply not up to snuff in the growing, drying and storing process, and some have been on those shelves for far too long to be of any benefit at all.

Repair and Restore Your Lungs After Heavy Smoke Exposure

10/16/2017

My heart goes out to the people in northern California right now as they deal with the raging wildfires. In my life, I have lost my home and everything I owned, to fire, not once, but twice. The experience can be overwhelming.

In this post, I'd like to offer real long-term healing support to the millions of people exposed to the toxic smoke that these, and other fires, cause us to inhale. Whether you're very close to these fiery blazes, like the thousands of firefighters and other first-responders, or being affected by the smoke drift throughout the Bay area (and, as it moves eastward, lingering and dropping its’ dusty ash and particulates), the effects can devastate your lungs and long-term health--especially if you have asthma, COPD, or another health condition.

Long Term Relief From Chronic Pain Comes Naturally

Picture
The statistics on people who suffer with chronic pain are staggering (see below). With nearly one in four Americans experiencing chronic pain, and far too many ending up becoming addicted to dangerous opioids, there are numerous holistic options that don't just mask the pain the way most pharmaceuticals do. Rather, several natural remedies actually work by getting to the underlying cause or causes of the pain deep within, providing not only temporary relief, but allowing the body to repair and restore, creating long-term healing and freedom from pain altogether.

These natural herbal remedies are non-addictive and have no known side effects, and many have been safely used for hundreds and even thousands of years. There are both topical and oral options that can be extremely effective.
